Volunteer
Service Award
The President’s Volunteer Service Award is an opportunity to honor our most outstanding student volunteers and recognize the impact they make.
About the Award
The President's Volunteer Service Award is issued by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation on behalf of the President of the United States to recognize the best in American Spirit and to encourage all Americans to improve their communities through volunteer service and civic participation. Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community while learning from the experience. Some colleges now require volunteer hours or heavily consider them on entrance applications.
Foothill students can qualify to receive the President's Volunteer Service Award based on the number of hours served in a 12 month period, in up to two years from the current year. For example, if you are turning in hours in 2025, you can use a 12 month period in 2024 or 2025. The awards are designated based on cumulative hours of service during that twelve-month period. The awards are offered on several levels and the levels include bronze, silver, and gold. You cannot use hours already counted toward one award for a second award.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Awards are based on the number of volunteer hours listed below:
TEENS (11-15 YEARS OLD)
Bronze: 50 - 74 hours
Silver: 75 - 99 hours
Gold: 100+ hours
YOUNG ADULTS (16-25 YEARS OLD)
Bronze: 100 - 174 hours
Silver: 175-249 hours
Gold: 250+ hours
*The age category is determined by the age the student was for at least 7 months within the calendar year. For example, if the student was 15 for seven (7) months within the year in question, that person would qualify within the teens (11-15 years old) age group.
During the submission period, students will need to complete the online Presidential Volunteer Service Award Record Sheet.
Reporting Instructions for Record Sheet
Fill out this Record Sheet by listing the number of hours you have completed and the information requested for the volunteer organization and submit via the above link. Form must be submitted within 2 years of the start of hours documented and all hours must be completed within one 12-month period. We do not accept partial forms. The hours listed on the form are the hours you are submitting for qualification. Please list the date interval and total hours you completed for each organization.
Request verification from the supervising adult for each organization listed using the Service Hour Verification Form.
When uploading recording sheets, be sure to name your files with your last name and first name the year for which you are applying: LastNameFirstNameYYYY.
IMPORTANT: Please make sure your cell phone number and non-TUSD email address are included on the Record of Service form as this is the only way the administrator can contact you if there are questions regarding your service/hours.
Applications are processed twice annually with these due dates: September 25th or April 25th.
Activities that count toward volunteer hours include:
FHS Student Council meetings and working hours (outside of school hours)
Working hours for volunteer groups, including mentoring and tutoring
Unpaid hours helping children

Questions?
Please contact Foothill’s PTO PVSA Administrator at fhspvsa@gmail.com for more information.
Adhering to the requirements of PVSA, certifying organizations cannot charge for the awards. Therefore, FHS PTO absorbed the costs of the award certificates.
There is an option of recognizing recipients with a medallion in addition to the certificate. Since the PTO has already "awarded" the recipient without cost to you, we can ask for a donation to cover the medallion and shipping for this optional recognition. If you would like a medallion from PVSA, please indicate on the form and make a check donation to FHS PTO for $20 per award and put PVSA in the memo. PVSA medallions are subject to availability.
